Arch Flash Burn Injury
In July 2023, an Alameda County jury awarded $25.5 million to David Perez and his wife Donna after an 8 week trial arising from a catastrophic electrical arc flash explosion at an Ashley Furniture outlet in Oakland, CA
Perez suffered second and third degree burns, required skin grafts and laser treatments, and was left with lasting impairment to his dominant right hand and arm.
During the trial, the jury heard evidence that the property owners had illegally installed an underrated electrical switch in a 480 volt panel without permits, failed to inspect or maintain the aging industrial property for decades, and then attempted to shift blame onto Perez despite these serious electrical code violations.
After weighing the evidence and arguments, the jury returned a verdict of $20.5 million in noneconomic damages for David Perez and $5 million for Donna Perez for loss of consortium.
SETTLEMENT: $1,650,000
Fall on hazardous floor causes Ischemic Stroke
In August 2023, our client suffered a fall at a supermarket after slipping on an unmarked puddle of spilled white wine. The impact from the fall caused a vertebral artery dissection in the neck that led to two ischemic strokes.
This case resolved two weeks before trial after we were able to show extensive evidence that the supermarket failed to follow its own spill‑response rules, and allowed numerous customers to traverse the transparent spill without any warning.
